WHAT TO WEAR FOR FAMILY PHOTOS
Let’s admit it. Choosing what to wear for photos can be super stressful! But finding that perfect outfit is easier with a little bit of guidance.
A thoughtfully put together wardrobe will make the difference between ordinary images and exceptional ones. Textures, layering and meaningful accessories can add character and depth to your photographs.
Be yourself
First and foremost. Just be yourself.
The more comfortable you feel in your clothes, the more relaxed you’ll be during the shoot and the photos will truly represent you and your family. So if you love colour embrace it, if you are more of a neutral lover, dress the whole family in earthy tones!
And if black is your thing, that’s fine too! There is no right and wrong, so really think about how you want to see your family in 20 years!
Choose your outfit first
One of the easiest ways to start is choosing what YOU want to wear.
Comfortable=confident, so it’s always a good idea to just wear your favourite piece of clothing, whether it be a dress, jeans or t-shirt. Not only will you have it captured in photos to remember forever, but will feel the most comfortable, and confident for the shoot!
Don’t match, coordinate
If there is one no-no when it comes to dressing your family is would be to stay away from matching colours, and all wearing the same outfits.
It might have been cool to dress the whole family in white in the 90’s , but things have changed a lot since then.
Instead use a few different colours that go well together. See a few examples:
Or just choose a few from the pallet below, they should all go nicely together.
It’s always fun to add a little colour, to highlight the newest family addition or just to show off the cute little outfit you just got.
Use neutral colours
Neutral colours always work really well as they don’t take away the attention and the people and the connections will be the main focus.
You could mix up different shades of beige, cream, and add some brown, terracotta.
Keep comfort first
During a session we do a lot of moving around, sitting on the floor, jumping on beds, so always have this in mind and wear something that will not prevent you from moving freely.
The same applies to kids, dress them in clothes that will be easy to cuddle them in and will not get in the way.
Babies look cutest in simple bodies or naked!
The easiest way to show of those little rolls and dimples and cutest legs is to dress your baby in a simple body or undress them completely. We can always do it at the end of the shoot too so the baby doesn’t get too cold.
Keep it simple
Whatever you choose, the simplest option is usually the best.
In the end it’s your connection you have with your family that is the star of the show, and the clothes a merely a background. But we want to make sure they add value and not take away too much attention.
